Prayer for our General Elections – 17 May 19

Next Saturday, our nation goes to the polls and we have the opportunity, under our democratic system, to elect our future government and have our say on how we would want our future to look like. To a cynic, it may seem that our participation in the whole process may be of no use as, some may say, our politicians rarely keep to their election promises.

But to a Christian, who is connected to an awesome God, who has everything in His hands, the future is already in His control. Therefore, can I encourage you to please join with us as we set aside next Friday, 17thMay 2019, as a day for praying and fasting, in anticipation to hearing from our Father, and being prepared to act on His direction on Saturday 18that the polls.

On Friday we are having four 1 hour slots to pray for our upcoming elections. We are asking everyone to take up a slot and pray, even if it is for half an hour, for Saturday 18thand the future of our nation. The first three hourly slots can be used to pray away from Church, but for the final slot, in the evening, if you are able to make it, please join Ps. Hans and Juliet at Mandurah Baptist Church for corporate prayer.

The time slots are : 7.00am – 8.00am, 12.00 – 1.00pm, 4.00 – 5.00pm and 7.30pm – 8.30pm (the last being at Mandurah Baptist Church).

The following prayer points, taken from the Canberra Declaration website, can be a starting point for some of the prayer needs we may ask for :

  1. Pray that God would rule over this election that righteous leaders would be elected to govern this nation in truth and justice because, “When the righteous are in authority the people rejoice.” Proverbs 29:2
  2. Pray God’s blessing upon all our current parliamentarians and leaders, including their families and all the candidates of all the parties standing for this federal election. 1 Timothy 2:1-3
  3. Pray for a multiplication of prayer and unity across the Body of Christ in Australia that people will wake up to the dangers facing our nation and respond in prayer. Ephesians 5:14
  4. Pray for a Spiritual Awakening for Australia, Revival and Transformation for our nation and the proclamation of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. John 3:16

However, in all our prayers, please keep a portion of the time to quietly listen to our God speak, and to hear His plans and purposes.

If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. 2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV).

God bless you and our great country.
